چکیده

This paper reviews “socially interactive robots”: robots for which social human–robot interaction is important. We begin by discussing the context for socially interactive robots, emphasizing the relationship to other research fields and the different forms of “social robots”. We then present a taxonomy of design methods and system components used to build socially interactive robots. Finally, we describe the impact of these robots on humans and discuss open issues. An expanded version of this paper, which contains a survey and taxonomy of current applications, is available as a technical report [T. Fong, I. Nourbakhsh, K. Dautenhahn, A survey of socially interactive robots: concepts, design and applications, Technical Report No. CMU-RI-TR-02-29, Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, 2002]. © 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. Formalizing the Design Space and Product Development Cycle for Socially Interactive Robots

As socially interactive robots move out of the lab and “into the wild,” the systems being developed are shifting from being generaluse, research-focused platforms to application-speci c products. In product development, designers systematically and iteratively explore the design space of a product to arrive at a design that best ful lls business, engineering, and design requirements. User Experience in Social Human-Robot Interaction

Socially interactive robots are expected to have an increasing importance in human society. For social robots to provide long-term added value to people’s lives, it is of major importance to stress the need for positive user experience (UX) of such robots. The human-centered view emphasizes various aspects that emerge in the interaction between humans and robots. However, a positive UX does not...

Attentional Mechanisms for Socially Interactive Robots-A Survey

This review intends to provide an overview of the state of the art in the modelling and implementation of automatic attentional mechanisms for socially interactive robots. Humans assess and exhibit intentionality by resorting to multisensory processes that are deeply rooted within low-level automatic attention-related mechanisms of the brain. For robots to engage with humans properly, they shou...
